Rigid hierarchies can stifle creativity and waste potential. Especially in smaller organizations, a flatter, more collaborative structure can be a game-changer.

Traditional business wisdom often elevates strong top-down leadership as essential for success. While Iโ€™ve been part of such leadership and recognize its role in certain situations, I believe itโ€™s often overemphasized. To me, leadership should be expressed by people across the team, not monopolized by those higher in the hierarchy.

Why? Rigid top-down systems tend to erode team vitality. They reduce people to order-takers, suppressing their creativity and ownership. Worse, they sometimes place undue confidence in the instincts of those in powerโ€”even when others on the team have greater context and skin in the game.
